Far Ings NNR 4th & 5th July 2011

An evening walk on the 4th July saw us watching the sunset at Chowder Ness. A full summer plumaged Spotted Redshank dropped in and 11 Golden Plover were pottering around in the mud. We also had 2 Little Egret and one of them perched for a few mins in trees around the Blow Wells. A immature Little Gull flew east and a Kingfisher was noted on Target Pit.
An early morning visit on the 5th was a quiet but pleasant one. 1 adult and 1 juvenile Marsh Harrier were noted, as were 2 Kingfisher (one on Pursuit Pit, the other on Ness Pit). A Lesser Whitethroat was seen near to Ness Hide and a poor Grey Heron was tormented and bombarded by the local Black Headed Gulls. A juvenile Water Rail crossed the causeway at Ness Pit too.
